As part of the company’s continued expansion, Plastek UK has made a significant investment in three new injection moulding machines, bringing the total on the shop floor to forty-one.
Plastek’s clients include the owners of some of the world’s most famous brands, and this latest expansion is a direct response to the winning of new business in this area. Indeed, expansion has been a continuous trend at Plastek UK. The company has trebled its production capacity since 1999, with no less than 8 new machines being installed since 2010.
“Our teams have now installed all three of the new Ferromatik machines,” said General Manager Mick Shaw, “a K-Tec 320, K-Tec 450 and the excellent K-Tec 200/2FETW machine which features the latest stack turning cube mould technology.”
“With four core sides which can be turned in less than a second this particular machine allows us to increase production capacity as there are twice as many cavities in the mould. It also allows us to use moulding machines with half the clamping force to produce the same quantity of parts – the advantages being lower capital costs, parts costs and cycle times. This is exactly the sort of process innovation our customers are looking for, and represents both a huge leap forward in injection moulding technology, and a significant new step in Plastek’s long-standing and very successful partnership with Ferromatik Milacron, which goes right back to 1999.”
